What BlueCube builds and how

Every BlueCube is built to order in Redmond, Oregon — the welded tub, the cabinetry, the assembly and the quality control. The company describes itself as a builder, not a marketer: it does not dropship or relabel, and the people who build a tub are the ones who service it.

D-line (Dip, Drop, Deep): welded 5052 aluminum tank, double-wall with R35 insulation, UV-protective powder-coat finish. Upright, stand-in tubs.
C-series (C1, C2, C3, Modular, Limitless): 14-gauge marine-grade 316-L stainless steel tub (stated as 30% thicker than competitors' stainless) in a marine-grade plywood frame built in house and coated in Line-X® polyurea — a weatherproof truck-bed-lining spray with UV and insulative properties. The Line-X is on the cabinet, not the stainless.
Alternative C-series tub materials: carbon fiber, HempCarbon, gel-coated fiberglass (+$3,000; for chlorinated water or where a non-metal tub is required).

RiverMode™

The thermal barrier: step into still cold water and within seconds your body warms the thin layer of water touching your skin. That layer insulates you, so after the first moments you are touching water you warmed yourself, not the temperature on the thermostat — the reason the first ten seconds feel brutal and the next three minutes feel manageable. A colder thermostat does not fix it; ice at 32°F still lets the layer form.

RiverMode removes the layer and keeps removing it: Iwaki magnetic-drive pumps push a continuous, river-like current across the body, so the water touching the skin is always the cold water in the tub. BlueCube's stated effect: with RiverMode running, every degree feels 3–4× harder, and the same tub keeps challenging an owner for years because the body cannot acclimate to water that will not sit still.

RiverMode™ (single pump): one ¼ HP Iwaki pump. Standard on the Drop and C1.
RiverMode™Plus (two pumps): a second Iwaki pump for a more aggressive current. Standard on the Deep, C2, C3, Modular and Limitless.

Dip: 43″-tall round stand-up tank, module integrated, smallest footprint in the lineup; keep the module side and bottom drain valve accessible. Dip, Drop and Deep are 33″ wide for doorways.
Drop and Deep: tank plus an exterior staircase housing the chiller and components; the staircase needs 18″ of clearance on its side. The Deep can be built as a Modular install (components in a remote box, separate staircase), quoted per project.

Chillers and controls

Most models run Balboa systems — proven across the spa industry, backed by a manufacturer warranty, serviceable through established networks. Drop and Deep: Balboa control system with topside touch panel. C1, C2, Limitless: app control (iOS/Android) and lights.
C-series chiller: 13,600 BTU (1.5 HP+) commercial chiller, outdoor-rated compressor, about 5°F per hour pull-down, operates in ambient temperatures down to 20°F (C1, C2). The C3 runs a 13,600 BTU (1.5 HP+) BlueCube-branded commercial chiller with app temperature control and no heater, reaching 34°F.
Dip: all-in-one integrated module. No chiller capacity is published for the Dip, Drop or Deep.
Temperature ranges are model-dependent: 41–104°F with heater and chiller on the Drop, Deep, C1, C2 and Modular (Balboa-equipped); 34–70°F chill-only on the C3. The Dip and Limitless pages publish no range.
Pull-down and hold: roughly 5–10°F per hour depending on model, fill temperature and conditions; a 70°F fill reaches 50°F in a few hours. The chiller then cycles on when the water drifts a couple of degrees and off when it is back; the fan runs only while chilling. Shade, airflow and the insulated cover help it.
Electrical: dedicated 110/120V 20-amp circuit (NEC requires dedicated outlets for cold plunges); Leviton self-testing GFCI right-angle plug, 20A, 115V, NEMA 5-20P (one horizontal prong) — confirm the outlet accepts it. C-series can be hardwired. Outlet within 10 feet, out of reach from the water; no extension cords. No plumber is required for standard configurations.
Energy use: BlueCube does not publish energy-consumption figures (amps, kW or kWh) for any model. Published facts that bear on it: the chiller cycles off at setpoint, the fan runs only while chilling, and the insulated tub, cabinet and cover reduce run time.
Winter: a BlueCube runs outdoors through winter in most climates as long as power stays on. Below 20°F sustained, or when nobody is home to catch an outage, drain and winterize per the Winterization Guide.

Sanitation and water care

Standard on every model: 20-micron cartridge filtration plus automatic ozone (O₃) injection — chemical-free. Residential units ship chemical-free and stay that way.
Bio Maintain: an enzyme treatment (seven bacterial strains) that digests body oils and organic waste; one bottle a month covers a tub used up to five times a day.
Commercial upgrades: AOP (ozone + UV) or a controlled low-dose chlorine drip; skimmer upgrade for regulated, high-traffic installations. Chlorine leaves the measurable residual health departments test for; ozone does not.
Water changes: every 6–8 weeks for light use; 4–6 weeks for daily use or two users; 2–4 weeks for heavy use; busy facilities often change daily (about every 50 plunges). A BlueCube drains and refills in about 15 minutes with a garden hose.
Filter care: rinse weekly; deep-clean with an Aqua Comb and an overnight 1:1 water/white-vinegar soak; a cartridge lasts two to four cycles, about 3–6 months. Own two and rotate; slice valves on both sides of the filter housing allow a mid-drain swap. Bleed the air after every filter change and refill.
Line flush: fill with 104–105°F water and circulate it through the whole system to melt body-fat film out of the plumbing — quarterly to monthly at a busy facility, about yearly for a family tub.
Never add: casual chlorine, pool shock, bromine tablets, spa fragrances or essential oils, vinegar. In hard-water areas a $75 inline carbon filter on the fill hose prevents staining.
Keep the cover on and rinse before getting in; facilities should add a rinse station.

Commercial

Commercial-capable vs commercial-compliant: capable describes the build — 316 stainless welded in-house, dedicated pumps and chillers, full-size plumbing; every BlueCube qualifies. Compliant is a build the county health department will approve: the C2X and C3X (C2 and C3 with the commercial package).
Commercial package: +$4,500 on the C2 or C3, bundling a tub-material upgrade (carbon fiber, HempCarbon or gel-coated fiberglass) with chlorine-drip or AOP sanitation. C2X is selectable on the C2 product page. C2, C3 and Modular can be upgraded to automated chlorine and pH balancing; Dip, Drop, Deep and C1 cannot.
Uprights (Dip, Drop, Deep, Limitless) handle commercial workloads but are not configured for compliance the way the C2X and C3X are.
Health departments: no national cold plunge standard; compliance runs county by county. Nearly every health department treats a commercial cold plunge like a spa and wants a measurable sanitizer residual at all times — commonly 3–10 ppm free chlorine at pH 7.0–7.8 (CDC MAHC 2023; adopted by Oregon and Washington). BlueCube sends specs and technical drawings for submission and adjusts the build to the county's requirements.
Capacity: ten or more users a day is commercial territory. Most facilities BlueCube serves run 42–48°F all day. Fifty back-to-back users call for a second tub, not a bigger chiller.
Reliability: Iwaki magnetic-drive pumps with no shaft seals; Balboa systems; Schedule 40 PVC; 25.6 GPM per pump for rapid cooling and filtering; component bays open without tools; shutoff valves on both sides of the filter housing; any pool and spa technician, plumber or GC can service the machine.

Lead times and delivery

Build time: standard builds (Dip, Drop, Deep, C1, C2, C3) 6–8 weeks; Modular 8–10 weeks; Limitless 10–12 weeks; commercial packages (C2X/C3X) 10–12 weeks; plus 1–2 weeks of shipping. Custom lead time is set on the quote.
Shipping: curbside freight delivery included in the continental 48 states; the team schedules delivery and walks the owner through setup on a live video call.
Arrival: palletized crate dropped curbside, tub fully assembled. Have screw guns to open the crate. D-line: two to four movers with dollies. C-series: four movers with dollies; the 28.5″-tall tubs tilt on their side through doors. Measure the doorway path before delivery day.
Setup: C-series is plug-and-plunge once in position; filling takes 10–15 minutes. Dip: place it, fill it, plug it in. Drop and Deep: the only connection is the spa-union plumbing between tub and staircase — no plumber needed. Coverage begins at installation; no daily-use limit. The 5-year extension ("lifetime protection program") is for owners who follow maintenance schedules and sign up for the service subscription plan.
Filter cartridges, lids, pillows, cover locks, spa covers and other accessories are warranted free of defects at delivery but not covered by the terms above. Wooden decks and frames (non-Line-X) must be oiled with teak or tung oil every one to six months; wood placed outdoors or in direct sun is excluded from the frame and cabinet warranty. Fading and weathering are not defects.
Claims: email service@bluecubebaths.com with the purchase receipt within 30 days of discovering the issue; if no reply within 48 hours, call (541) 393-9149. Repairs are at no charge for parts or labor; a technician travel charge may apply.

Cold shock: the first 20–30 seconds trigger rapid breathing and an urge to gasp. Enter deliberately, exhale slowly, never jump in headfirst.
Heart conditions: cold immersion sharply raises blood pressure and heart rate; anyone with heart disease, arrhythmia or uncontrolled hypertension needs physician clearance first.
Hypothermia develops faster than expected below 40°F. Uncontrollable shivering, clumsiness or confusion mean get out and rewarm now.
Afterdrop: core temperature keeps falling for several minutes after exit; have dry clothes and a warm plan ready.
Never plunge alone at extreme temperatures, never after alcohol, never dunk your head while solo.
Alcohol: do not cold plunge after drinking — impaired thermoregulation and judgment, cardiovascular strain, slowed reaction time.
Pregnancy: generally not recommended; consult a doctor or OB-GYN first.
Beginners: start at 55–60°F for 1–2 minutes and step down over weeks, not days; the mid-30s is an advanced dose. Warm-up gauge: if it takes more than an hour to feel normal again, the session was too cold or too long.
Equipment: dedicated 120V 20A circuit, self-testing GFCI plug included, outlet out of reach from the water, no extension cords.
